Insights Report which reveals data from 2021-2022.
At the time of reporting, almost 4,000 individuals had created meaningful work profiles and, as you might expect, there have been some significant shifts since the pandemic.

What is Meaningful Work?
Our work provides an income to live and support ourselves and our families. However, our work now, with the decline of traditional sources of community and social support, has also become a primary source of personal identity, significance, and meaning in life.
There was no clear or constant definition of meaningful work anywhere in the world and none at all that has been developed specifically for Australians.
That is why Beaumont People undertook the research and created the Meaningful Work Profile Tool - the first of its kind.
Our approach investigates four aspects influencing meaningful work, including the individual’s perspective, the job being undertaken, the organisation that the role is with and the society and culture which you are part of.
And now, anyone can uncover what meaningful work means for them and Employers can better understand how to provide meaningful work in the workplace.

Does the Meaningful Work Profile Tool meet the requirements of a psychometric assessment?
The Meaningful Work Profile Tool meets the three requirements to be a valid psychometric assessment.
Firstly, it is standardised. This means the assessment is consistent in its administration, scoring and testing conditions.
Secondly, it is reliable, in that the outcome of the assessment is not influenced by outside factors.
Thirdly, it is valid. This means it has been academically shown to assess what it is supposed to.
When should the Meaningful Work Profile Tool be used?
The Meaningful Work Profile Tool can be used on multiple occasions and may be used on a regular basis to track improvements at the organisational level or to assess changes for the individual.
The Meaningful Work Profile Tool can be used at different stages of your career for different reasons. The three main reasons are:
- To aid you in better understanding what is important to you as you have internal career discussions with your employer
- To help you in your job search to ensure the organisations you are considering working for aligns with the ways in which you derive meaning from your work
- To allow the organisation to understand and then improve the ways in which it provides meaningful work to its employees.
What is the difference between the individual profile and the organisational profile?
The Meaningful Work Profile comes in two forms. The individual profile, which allows you to see the ways in which you personally derive meaning from your work and the Organisational profile, which allows you to share the ways in which your organisation currently provides meaningful work.
Anyone can undertake the individual profile at any time, but in addition some organisations may ask you to undertake the organisational one so that they can have a view across how the organisation currently provides meaningful work.
Can I prepare myself for this profile?
Whilst there is no preparation you can do to ensure a specific outcome, you can ensure that you are best placed to have a result that most represents what meaningful work is for you. To do that, ensure that you are able to take the Meaningful Work Profile without being interrupted, and at a time when you have the head space to think carefully about your answers. Take your time and answer honestly to ensure your report best represents what meaningful work is to you.
Can I take the profile more than once?
Yes, and there may be reasons why you would. If you are changing jobs, or making an internal career move it might be worth re-taking the Meaningful Work Profile to see if anything has changed for you personally in relation to meaningful work. Further your organisation may ask you to take the profile on a regular basis – e.g. quarterly so they can assess if the improvements they are looking to make are working.
Where do I see my profile?
By signing into your account, you will be able to review all your past profiles. You will also find an email with a survey link sent to you on completion each profile you have taken.
Who has access to my profile?
Other than yourself, your profile can be accessed by the relevant Beaumont People staff in line with our Privacy Policy. If you have been asked to undertake the Meaningful Work Profile by your organisation the relevant staff in your organisation will also have access to your profile.
Why should I take the Meaningful Work Profile?
The tool will allow individuals to:

The Organisational Meaningful Work Profile Tool will help organisations to:

Understand and measure the ways in which they currently offer meaningful work

Helping them to build attraction and retention strategies by aligning more with those individuals whose needs in meaningful work match what they provide.
What should I do if I don’t agree with the results?
Your profile is a generated as a result of the answers you gave. If you are uncomfortable with your results it may be for two reasons. Either the answers you gave did not represent how you truly feel, or the ways in which work is meaningful to you are different from your expectations.
If you feel that you need to be more honest in your answers, by all means, re-take the profile. If however it is that the results are not what you are expecting, it might be useful for you to explore why. Perhaps this is an opportunity for you to truly focus on work that might be more satisfying to you in the longer term.
Can taking the Meaningful Work Profile restrict my career options?
If you use the Meaningful Work Profile Tool appropriately it should help you to blossom in your career. By understanding the ways in which you find meaning in work, you will be more likely to secure work that allows you to perform at a higher level.
If the organisation you are working for or seeking a role with is also looking at the ways in which the organisation provides meaningful work it will allow you to better assess how well matched you are and again lead to greater career satisfaction.
How long will the profile take?
On average it takes approximately 12 minutes to take the individual or organisational profile. We suggest you ensure that you have 30 minutes of uninterrupted time if you are taking one test, and 45 minutes if you are taking both just so that you can be relaxed and not feel rushed as you answer the questions.
Can I share the results with my employer or future employer?
Yes, your profile is yours to do with as you wish. If your organisation has not participated at an organisational level it might be a great opportunity for them to understand more about you and how to get the best out of you. Further, they may then consider looking at meaningful work from an organisational level which would then help everyone.
Can I ask other members of my family, friends or workplace to take the Meaningful Work Profile?
Yes. Anyone can take the profile that wants to understand more about meaningful work.
How much does the Meaningful Work Profile Tool cost?
At Beaumont People our purpose is to create more opportunities for individuals to connect with organisations that provide them with meaningful work. For this reason, anyone can take the individual profile and see their own personal profile at any time for free. We want people to better understand how work is meaningful to them and we don’t want cost to be a barrier to that.

Yes. The Organisation Meaningful Work Profile Tool will help organisations to:

How can this profile help me when looking for a new job?
By understanding the ways in which you find meaning in work you will be able to assess this when looking for job opportunities. Typically, we look at the job itself, and the culture of the organisation, as well as the benefits to see if we think a job will be a good fit for us.
But the Meaningful Work Profile Tool is the only tool of its kind that will help you understand every single aspect of meaningful work across you as an individual, the job itself, the organisation and how that fits in at a society level to allow you a much better way to see if a job is a good fit for you.
How is this different to other engagement or culture surveys?
Engagement and culture surveys are highly valuable Tools that measure specific aspects within an organisation. Typically, they only take in the individuals view of the organisation.
Our Meaningful Work Profile Tool is the only one of its kind, worldwide, that looks into the individual preferences, the job itself, the organisation and the society within which it sits to give a complete picture of how these elements combine to provide meaningful work.

To view your Meaningful Work profile at any time sign in to your personal dashboard via the meaningful work homepage and review any of the profiles you may have taken. They are stored safely there in line with our privacy policy.
